Living up to our name as a collaboratory, the MAGIC Smart Home project is a demonstration of telemedicine, sensors and in-home intelligence, connected by Software Defined Networking and utilizing the Westminster Fiber Network, to create the fundamental unit of a truly Smart Community. Networking Sandbox

The MAGIC Networking Sandbox is a hardware platform loaded with virtualization software that is the engine for a variety of innovative technology initiatives.  Working with high school and college students, MAGIC sponsors and conducts hacking competitions, network technology demonstrations, and application development challenges, all using the latest technology.    This provides students with learning experiences that extend and amplify what they learn in the classroom, in ways that increase their interest and excitement about technology.

Live Local: A Social Media Experiment

This first-of-its-kind social media experiment is providing students an opportunity to gain hands on experience with social media marketing and develop innovative marketing strategies. The central question to the experiment is one that every small business faces when they open their doors - how do I get the word out about my company? Even though the students are marketing a real community discount program, they are doing so in an environment that is safe to fail. At the end of this experiment students will publish a white paper sharing the lessons they learned from the experience. Read more...
